Biography

Eric Estuar Reyes, Ph.D.

Born in 1965 in Manila, Philippines, he lives in Taipei, Taiwan and Southern California. He has lived throughout California (Anaheim, Hacienda Heights, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, San Francisco, Santa Cruz) and grew up in San Diego, New Orleans, Providence (Rhode Island), Naples (Italy), Honolulu, and Manila. In addition to his ceramics practice, he has worked as an associate professor of Asian American Studies at California State University at Fullerton since 2005. His current ceramics work focuses on functional ware (tea bowls, vases, and lidded jars) and more recently, sculptural work (figurative forms).

Ceramics Experience

I completed a hand-building course at the University of Oregon, Eugene in the summer of 1998. I had been taking an intensive language course to learn Tagalog (Philippine national language).

Since then I have taken formal art training at Glendale Community College from 2000-2003 in Glendale, California. While beginning my work as a university professor, I worked infrequently until several years ago. Since 2016 and have worked extensively at Muddy’s Studio in Orange County, California.
